42 km Merino Muster  race

THE COURSE -

The  Merino Muster leads you around the spectacular Snow Farm trail network. For the competitive skier, there is a significant variety of terrain with regular feed stations around the course. For the Novice there is the 7km 14km and 21km where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere while gazing at the feed stations and chatting with other skiers and volunteers.

All events start with a 7km loop in the main basin where all the spectators can watch their friends and family as they wind their way around Marys Trail, Merino Glen and Highlander. The 7km competitors finish at the lodge ( the 14km repeats the 7km loop) with the 21km and 42km heading out around the River Run and The Loop skiing beside the tranquil Meg River past the Meadow and Reid Hut, returning to the Lodge where the 21km finish and the Merino Muster skiers ski through the stadium out onto Hanging Halley across Musterers Flat to Meadow hut and back through Tranquilty onto the Top of the Loop and back to the Finish area. Back to the 42km finish: after coming back from the Loop go onto the lower Merino around the leg back as in the Straggle Muster (see map below)- out the connector that takes  onto the lower Highlander track wow your nearly there.

The maps are a guide

Muster

Mustering is the process of herding sheep to places that you want them to go. The Snow Farm land was home to the Merino Sheep prior to being retired from grazing.

The sheep are mustered for from the high country in May to graze on the lower country during the winter months. The Merino Muster is keeping the tradition alive _ celebrate with us.

There are no sheep or sheep dogs entered in the event.
